Oh Happiness Please Follow Me

A Break Down of an Illustration

I’ve been very lazy with my illustration work, even my own work lately. It’s been a strange and changing shift of moments in my life of late. Great realizations and well, I’m starting to see clearly now. Hopefully it lasts.

More recently though I’ve finished up a piece I’ve worked on - on  and off for the last few months. I’m not  actually sure how long this took me. Another simple piece that started as a sketch. The idea was that it was an illustration of me in the future in my my early 50’s. I’m now 27 but I try not to think of the future too much. So this piece did turn out a bit sombre/melancholy.

For starters, it’s basically about how it’s easy to give up on your passionate interests in life. The ghosts or images following me are a few things that would remind me of what I’d left behind and myself wearing a suit and smoking a cigarette, two things I don’t do. I’ll wear a suit to a wedding, but thats that. The dragon tattoo that’s stretched over my body is hidden, but slightly in view. Dragons represent freedom and the sky. To be free of the burden of pretending to be what you’re not is a great feeling.

I would have added more images but I wanted to keep it eastern, with a slight reference to “The Crying Freeman” which is undoubtedly one of my favorite action films of all time.

As far as the mountain in the background goes, I love mountains. I’m working on a series of just landscapes. It’s really nice intricate stuff.

Batman Never Stood A Chance

> Batman Never Stood A Chance | Ink & Digital 297mm X 380mm, 2008

I originally did this for a character sketch challenge where you draw characters you never usually would. I drew my version of Poison Ivy with some reference to the original character design. She is a character I know very little about even though I am huge Batman fan.

I worked on this piece over time, much like the rest of my personal work. And for a change I didn’t use any anatomy reference. I did use a photo reference for the bat which I had never drawn before either.
